November 20 - 21, 24: YOU are the Historian! [Virtual Field Trip]
Explore all the clues and primary sources on this site to learn about the first thanksgiving which began as a harvest festival.
1. Explore a section called Fact vs. Myth where you will match pictures and descriptions. Each section includes an expert video that talks you through the section and explains a little about the first Thanksgiving 2. In the next section, explore the and learn about their different celebrations and traditions throughout the year. Wampanoag people 3. Then visit an English Colonist village and learn more about life for the Pilgrims. 4.Next, learn about the events or the Path to 1621 and what led up to the harvest celebration. The timeline in this section clearly shows what events were happening from the colonists point of view and what events were happening from the Wampanoag point of view. 5. Last, share what you have learned. Choose a topic for your exhibit. Create a virtual informational poster where you will type the text of the poster. Students may print or 'snip' and save their completed poster. |

2. Continue working and creating your series of 8 trading cards using Trading Card Creator. If you have saved a previous file that you are still working on use the first tab on the page that says "open" and find your file on the desktop.

Step 1: Enter your name and choose card type.
Add descriptions to each section. Step 2: 'Finish Editing' when your card is drafted and revised. Add a New Card to a set about your book OR Finish. Step 3: Save your work as a Draft you can re-upload and work on later or as a Final Copy.

Create a trading card to show your reading comprehension and literacy knowledge.
(Choose a fictional character or setting. It may be from the book you just reviewed, a read-aloud from class, or another book you've read of your choice!) 1. Go to Trading Card Creator and enter your first name. 2. Choose Fictional Character or Fictional Place. 3. Complete information in each section to create your new card. 4. Review and revise each section of your trading card after you add new information. 5. 'Finish Editing' and create a new card to add to a set about your book. Later we will snip a screenshot of of a card to post and share on blogs! |
November 6 - 7, 10: Book Review Blog Challenge
Use Your book review plan that you developed to type your blog post today in Kidblog. Be sure to include at least three paragraphs that cover 1.the plot, 2. your likes and dislikes of the book, and 3. who you would recommend the book to. Include a drawing or a picture from your book you are reviewing.

- Does the book fit into a genre, like mystery or adventure, and why?
- When and where does the action in the book take place? Does the author do a good job of making you feel like you are there? How?
- Who are the main characters? Do you know anyone like them? How does the author describe them?
- Does the author use words in unique and interesting ways (voice and word choice)?
- Use examples to back up your points, such as describing a scene that really moved you or using a couple of short quotes from the book.
- Don’t forget to include your opinion of the book, whether you liked or disliked.Be sure NOT to give away the ending!

October 23 - 24, 27: TTM & Digital Citizenship Blog Challenge
1. Students work through individualized lessons within Think Through Math. Use journal pages to help solve problems.
2. Complete 1st Kidblog post summarizing digital citizenship and create avatar as safe smart way to express online identity. If your first post is complete work on a 2nd post of YOUR CHOICE, Write about something that interests you such as your favorite hobby, a book you recently read, a movie you recently watched, your favorite sport, fashion, anything that excites you and are passionate about. Make it interesting for your classmates to read and comment on. Add any photos you want enhance the post. |
1.View a short video about Google Maps street view. Using Google Maps, students will go to the site and enter the addresses to find directions and answer the questions on the handout. Students may have to use a search engine to find the correct addresses of the locations before using Google Maps.
2. Explore Google Treks and journey through a fascinating land. Choose one site for today. 3. If you complete the above items, login to our classes' kidblog page to edit your drafts on digital citizenship. Submit your draft to be published when you feel it is at its best.
