Space Learning Mission
Greetings Space Travelers! NASA has appointed each of you to be lead scientists and astronauts on a mission to explore our solar system!
Blast off to discover and record your facts and findings about the key characteristics, movement, and relative location of a component of our solar system. Publish and share your findings with your fellow scientists when you arrive back to MCLIMS from your learning journey.
Introductory Clips:
A solar system consists of the Sun and the bodies which are within its field of gravity. These include asteroids, meteors, satellites or moons, comets and planets. The planets in our solar system each have their own unique characteristics, and some of these are affected by distance from the Sun.
Big Questions:
PART 1 RESEARCH:
Taking notefacts - RWT: Fact Fragment Frenzy
Guiding Questions:
Big Questions:
- How do objects in the solar system differ in terms of size, composition, features, distance, movement, and apparent motion?
- How does an object’s size and position affect the conditions on the planet itself and other objects in the solar system?
- What is the difference between a star, a planet and a moon?
- Why do some objects have more gravity than others?
PART 1 RESEARCH:
Taking notefacts - RWT: Fact Fragment Frenzy
Guiding Questions:
- Where does the object exist in our solar system?
- How far apart is it from other objects in our solar system? What is it's distance from the sun?
- What is the length of a planet’s day, night, year, and seasons?
- What causes this object in the solar system to move and change?
- What are physical properties of this object? What would we see if we visited? What are the conditions that affect human survival?
- How does the gravity of this object affect other objects in the solar system, including astronauts?
